Industry is one of the key sectors of the country’s economy and the main producer of material goods, its development lays a favorable foundation for the development of other sectors of the economy and strengthens the authority and position of the state in the international arena. Given the importance of the industrial sector in solving socio-economic issues and creating jobs, on December 26, 2018, the Founder of Peace and National Unity, Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon in his next Address to Parliament declared the accelerated industrialization of the country as the fourth national goal. Also, by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon dated January 6, 2022 No. 309, 2022-2026 were declared: “Years of Industrial Development”.
Industrial production has developed gradually compared to other sectors of the economy, including agriculture, and its contribution has begun to play a major role in providing employment, exporting products, growing gross domestic product and economic development of countries as a whole. This is due to the fact that over the first nine months of this year, industrial enterprises together with private entrepreneurs of the country produced products worth 36.3 billion somoni, which increased by 15.3% in comparable prices compared to the same period last year. The main factor in the growth rate of the industry’s development is mainly due to an increase in production volumes in the extractive industry – by 35.9%, processing industry – by 10.0%, electricity, gas, steam and air purification – by 0.6%, water supply, cleaning, waste recycling and secondary products – by 1.7 times. Taking into account various factors, including the geographical factor, the mining industry of Tajikistan is a criterion for the country’s economy, around which new production rings are formed, and this sector is the most important in the structure of the economy and industry. During the reporting period, that is, from January to September 2024, the mining industry produced products worth 8.4 billion somoni, which is 35.9% more than in the same period of the previous year in comparable prices.
The growth rate of development of the mining industry by type of product compared to the same period last year due to the extraction of coal and brown ores – 34.2%, metal ores – 37.9%, any minerals – 18.8%. The volume of production in the processing industry for this period reached 20.3 billion somoni, of which food products together with beverages and tobacco – 7.7 billion somoni, production of textile and clothing products – 2.3 billion somoni, production of wood and paper products, publishing – 555.7 million somoni, production of petroleum products – 46.7 million somoni, production of chemical products amounted to 425.0 million somoni, all types of non-metallic minerals – 2.9 billion somoni, metallurgical production and production of finished metal products – 5.4 billion somoni. The volume of industrial production in the manufacturing industry as a whole increased by 10.0%.
In January-September 2024, the volume of production of food products together with beverages and tobacco increased by 9.2%, of which pasta – by 25.9%, confectionery – by 30.4%, soft drinks – by 16.7%. The volume of production and distribution of electricity, gas and air purification in January-September 2024 amounted to 7.3 billion somoni, and the growth in production for this type of activity was 100.6%. The volume of production and water supply, waste treatment, recycling and access to recycling in January-September 2024 amounted to 248.7 million somoni. The volume of shipped industrial products of industrial enterprises for January-September 2024, together with other industrial products, amounted to 34.3 billion somoni. In the structure of the volume of industrial production of the republic, the priority is the share of the Sughd (56.5%) and Khatlon regions (23.4%) in the volume of industrial production. The average per capita industrial production volume in the republic is 3611.73 somoni. In the reporting period, 3692 manufacturing enterprises operated, including 345 in mining, 3175 in processing, 72 in electric power, gas, steam and air purification, and 100 in water supply and wastewater treatment. Of these, 1198 units (32.5% of the total number of enterprises) are in Sughd region, 864 units (23.4%) in Khatlon region, 794 units (21.5%) in Dushanbe, 699 units (18.9%) in RRS and 137 units (3.7%) in GBAO.
