PRODUCTION OF 282 TONS OF COCOON IN FIVE MONTHS

Sericulture and processing of cocoons are one of the oldest occupations of the Tajik people and are a profitable and priority industry; the production of cocoons is of great importance for providing raw materials for the country’s industrial enterprises, providing employment to the population and increasing the production capacity of domestic enterprises. Considering the importance of this industry, in the five months of this year, 281.9 tons of cocoon were produced in the country, which is 1.6 times more than in the same period last year. During this period, cocoon production in the farms of Khatlon region amounted to 180.1 tons, Sughd region 76.1 tons and districts of republican subordination 25.7 tons.

It is worth noting that the country has a “Program for the development of the sericulture and cocoon processing industries in the Republic of Tajikistan for 2020-2024”, the main goal of which is to create the conditions and basis for the sustainable development of the sericulture and cocoon processing industries based on the processing of local raw materials, providing employment, development economic mechanisms and incentive factors for attracting direct investment into the industry.
